Message from Pamela HeglandDirector of Student Services
Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Pamela Hegland and I’m honored and excited to be named the Director of Student Services of the Berwick Area School District.
I began my teaching career in 2008 at the Berwick Area Middle School as a 7th grade Learning Support Teacher. I then taught Middle School Emotional Support for eight years and was also a teacher and supervisor in the Evening Education Program. In 2017, I served as the Social Behavior Support Specialist district-wide.
I am a resident of Nescopeck and graduate of the Berwick Area Senior High School. I graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education. I went on to earn a Master of Education degree in Special Education. In 2016, I returned to Bloomsburg University and received my Supervisory and Principal Certification.
I am honored and excited to work with you and our incredible team of educators, staff, and administrators. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you might have throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Pamela N. Hegland phegland@berwicksd.org 570-759-6400 x 3503

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires Pennsylvania to ensure that the total number of students assessed in each subject using the PASA does not exceed one percent of the total number of all students in the state assessed on the statewide assessments. Each local educational agency (LEA) must complete and submit the PASA 1.0 Percent Participation Threshold Justification to BSE if it anticipates that more than 1.0 % of its students enrolled in grades 3-8 and 11 will be assessed using the PASA. A list of LEAs who anticipate exceeding the threshold will be made publicly available on the PDE website, in accordance with 34 CFR 200.6 (c)(3) regulations. LEAs must also make the document publicly available upon request, removing any personally identifiable information. The Berwick Area School District anticipates exceeding the 1.0 percent threshold for PASA participation for the 2021-2022 testing cycle. The necessary justification information has been submitted to the Bureau of Special Education. Questions on Berwick Area School District's participation rates should be directed to Mrs. Pamela Hegland, Director of Student Services.
